American company SpaceX has shifted its focus to building a self-sustaining city on the Moon. This could potentially be achieved in less than 10 years, while building such a city on Mars would take more than 20 years, SpaceX founder Elon Musk announced on the social network X.
According to Musk, SpaceX's mission remains to spread "consciousness and life as we know it to the stars." He noted that travel to Mars is only possible during specific planetary alignments every 26 months, with a flight time of six months. In contrast, launches to the Moon are possible every 10 days (with a flight taking two days).
"This means we can complete a lunar city much faster than a Martian one," emphasized Musk.
SpaceX will also strive to build a Martian city, the billionaire added. The company will begin this effort in about five to seven years.
